A Dundee drug user spat at a policewoman’s face while he was covered in blood as he sat in the back of a police car, a court has heard.
William Galloway, 54, was released from custody to await sentencing due to his health.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that much of Galloway’s muscle mass has wasted away due to him injecting drugs into his groin, meaning he struggles to walk, among other physical ailments.
In addition, he has a history of mental health issues.
Addressing the accused, Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “Had your health not been so bad, I would have remanded you in custody.”
Galloway has pled guilty to two charges relating to an incident on Peddie Street on November 18, 2017.
He admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, swearing, making abusive remarks to constable Linzi McAlpine and making threats towards constable Paul Scott while in the execution of their duty.
Then, while sitting in the rear of a police vehicle on the same date and location, he assaulted Ms McAlpine by spitting at her face whilst covered in blood.
Galloway, of Peddie Street, pled guilty to the offences on November 2 but failed to appear for a further hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court on November 29.
In addition, he has failed to appear as a witness in relation to another case.
He was arrested and brought to court from custody on Friday.
His sentencing has been deferred and a new hearing has been set for February 21, for criminal justice and social work reports to be obtained.
A contempt of court order is under consideration in relation to the other matter.
