James Johnston appeared in private at the town’s sheriff court on Monday, the day after a stand-off involving emergency services in the Linktown area. The 31-year-old made no plea to a petition alleging charges of assault to injury and threatening and abusive behaviour. He was also accused of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place without a reasonable excuse. The case was continued for further examination and Johnston is expected to make a second court appearance within the next week.
