A Fife man who was convicted of repeatedly raping a teenager and a woman wept as a judge told him that his crimes meant prison is “inevitable”.
Gary Watt, 29, broke down moments after a jury convicted him on two charges of raping his victims between December 2006 and June 2016.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how Watt preyed on his first victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when she was aged 13.
He started abusing her in December 2006 and continued assaulting her until August 2007.
Watt, of Markinch, then preyed on his second victim between March 2016 and June 22 2016. The offences took place at various locations in Fife.
He was brought to justice after his victims gained courage to speak to detectives who built a case against Watt. The verdicts came at the end of a trial in which Watt, a first offender, denied assaulting the pair, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
Following conviction, prosecution lawyer Mark McGuire told judge Lord Arthurson that Watt had no previous convictions.
Defence solicitor advocate Gordon Martin said that he would reserve his mitigation until a sentencing hearing.
He said that because Watt had no previous convictions, the law stated that Lord Arthurson was obliged to obtain a report into his background.
Lord Arthurson remanded him in custody and said: “Given the nature of the offences to which you have been convicted of, a prison sentence in this case is inevitable.”
Watt was found guilty of assaulting and raping a 13-year-old between December 1 2006 and August 31 2007.
He was also guilty of assaulting and raping a woman on various occasions at addresses in Fife between March 22 2012 and June 22 2016.
Watt will be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on February 26.
