A Stagecoach bus driver faces being sacked after he was caught driving while he was more than double the legal alcohol limit.
Georgios Katidis, 29, claimed he only planned to drive 15 metres – little more than a bus length – to move his car from one parking space to another.
Katidis, from Scott Street, Perth, admitted driving with excess alcohol (51 mics) in the city’s Victoria Street on September 9
2018.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown told Perth Sheriff Court: “At 3.40am officers saw the vehicle being driven by the accused turning from Scott Street into Victoria Street.
“He had stopped in the centre of the road, straddling the lines, with the engine running.
“He said he was only driving a short distance, but said he had been drinking.”
Solicitor Ian Houston, defending, said: “He was at home when he heard some rowdy people in the street.
“He had previously suffered an incident of vandalism to the car, so he decided to move it round the corner to a safer space.
“He reckons he was driving it no more than 15 metres.”
Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney banned Katidis for a year and ordered him to carry out 50 hours of unpaid community work.
