A killer prisoner who absconded while on home leave from Castle Huntly was found in a bedroom cupboard in Paisley.
Anthony McGinley was supposed to be staying with his sister in Glasgow but failed to take the bus back to the Longforgan prison.
Police received a tip-off that he was staying with a woman in the Renfrewshire town and broke down the door to find him hiding inside.
At Perth Sheriff Court the 34-year-old, who is serving time for culpable homicide and assault, had another year added to his sentence after admitting breaching his release order.
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told the court McGinley had been granted seven nights of unescorted home leave from March 7 2018.
She said that McGinley had a disagreement with his social worker and his licence was revoked on March 9 and prison officials were unable to contact him directly to tell him, but did make his mother and sister aware.
When he failed to return to the prison on March 14 a police hunt was launched.
Police arriving at an address in Paisley could hear voices inside and a dog barking but broke down the door after McGinley failed to answer and officers found him hiding in a bedroom of the property.
His solicitor said McGinley has “panicked” after learning his licence had been revoked and made the “stupid decision” to abscond.
McGinley, who is now detained at Low Moss prison, admitted breaching his release order between March 14 and 15 2018 by failing to return to Castle Huntly in an attempt to defeat the ends of justice.
