A Dundee lorry driver has been accused of killing a pensioner on a pedestrian crossing near an Aberdeen roundabout.
Great-grandmother Mary Allan, known to her friends as Molly, died at the King Street and St Machar Drive crossing last year.
Gerald Clark was accused of causing death by careless driving on September 10.
It is alleged the 65-year-old stopped on the pedestrian crossing and, when the lights turned red, failed to check his mirrors before moving.
The charge sheet alleges Clark, of Tait’s Lane, Dundee, failed to take into account that his blind spot at the front of the cab was “increased due to the presence of an additional shelf on the dashboard” and failed to make the necessary checks.
Clark was not present when the case was called at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and it was continued without plea for a month.
Mrs Allan was well known in the Bridge of Don and Seaton communities, having spent her whole life there.
She and her husband Ian, who had three children, were regulars in the British Legion.
Her funeral was so busy that the crowd spilled out into the car park.
Her daughter, Donna Emslie, described her as a “larger than life” character and the “centre” of the family, adding she who would do anything for anybody.
The “well-kent” 83-year-old was on her way back from visiting her niece at the nearby TSB when the accident happened.
In the days after the crash, police closed off King Street to do a reconstruction as they tried to piece together what happened on that day.
