A 22-year-old man has appeared in court charged with terrorism offences.
Sam Imrie appeared in private at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court yesterday on two charges under the Terrorism Act 2006.
He is accused of preparing terrorist acts, as well as inducing others to commit acts of terrorism through a published statement.
The Glenrothes man made no plea to the charges against him and the case was continued for further examination.
He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again within the next eight days.
Imrie’s appearance comes after armed counter-terrorism police swooped on an address in the Pitteuchar area in the early hours of Saturday, leaving neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac stunned.
Police said at the weekend that an individual was suspected of preparing “acts of terrorism”.
Detective Chief Superintendent Phil Chapman said the operation had been intelligence-led and insisted there was nothing to suggest any further threat to the community.
Imrie was brought to court under police escort after spending the weekend in custody in Glasgow.
His Colliston Avenue home was subjected to a fingertip search on Saturday by forensics specialists in white suits and masks, who remained on the scene until well into the evening.
The two-storey terraced house remained sealed off with police tape over the weekend.
Glenrothes MP Peter Grant said he was grateful to the police for their work.
“As always, I would advise anyone who has concerns about a possible security threat to contact the police immediately,” he said.
“As this is a live police investigation it would not be appropriate for me to comment further.”
