Dundee car saleswoman banned after drink-driving in her Audi TT after shift at Arnold Clark

Dundee Sheriff Court.

A Dundee car dealership employee has been disqualified from driving after she was caught behind the wheel while she was more than four times the legal limit.

Joanne McKillop went for drinks with a colleague after a shift at Arnold Clark on Balfield Road, then got into her Audi TT.

When caught by police, she was found to have 92 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 22 micrograms.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard the 36-year-old had only intended to move her car a short distance to get away from double yellow lines.

Discal Depute Kirsten Letford said: “Police Scotland received anonymous information that the accused was leaving her place of employment and driving her vehicle under the influence.

“Some 10 minutes later police officers saw the accused driving an Audi TT on Balfield Road. She was stopped and a breath test was carried out.”

McKillop’s solicitor Theo Finlay said his client would lose her job as a result of the conviction, placing her in financial hardship.

He said: “She finished early and went for drinks with a work colleague.

“She later went back to the premises because she had to pick up her house keys.

“She had no intention to drive the vehicle, but by then the street she had parked on that morning was quiet and it could clearly be seen she was on double yellow lines.

“She wanted to move the vehicle – it was a matter of a few yards.”

Sheriff Lorna Drummond disqualified McKillop, of Strathmartine Road, for 20 months and fined her £540.
