An Angus man “lost the head” and smashed up furniture after a family dispute.
Alexander Stewart, 65, of Quarry Park, Kirriemuir, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting and swearing at his wife when he appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday.
He also admitted acting in an aggressive manner, smashed a picture frame and broke up a table and chairs by smashing them on the ground.
The incident took place on July 5 at St Christopher Caravan Park in Montrose.
Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said the complainer was in the kitchen of the caravan when she saw her husband smash chairs on the floor.
“She became frightened and saw him smash a picture frame.
“He was shouting and swearing throughout the incident.”
The couple’s daughter phoned the police when he became abusive towards her mother.
The police attended and saw the witness was visibly upset.
The accused was traced in a utility room and said “I lost the head”.
Defence agent Brian Bell said: “This was a total one off. The couple have been together for 40 years, the police have never been involved in the past.
“This was not an alcohol problem, more a medical condition because of depression. He has attended his GP to seek treatment. There appears to have been a family dispute that caused the behaviour.”
Sheriff Keith O’Mahoney deferred sentence until August 15 for a criminal justice and social work report. Stewart was released on bail but must not enter the caravan park or approach his wife.
