A man accused of endangering a toddler’s life by holding a baby wipe in her mouth, restricting her breathing, has appeared in court.
Sharaz Hayat, 30, is alleged to have assaulted the two-year-old girl at a property in Glenrothes.
It is also alleged he held his or the child’s hands over her mouth, again restricting her breathing, and inflicted injuries on her head and body.
Hayat denied assaulting the child on November 3 and 4, last year, and assaulting a woman on November 4.
He is accused of restricting the woman’s breathing by seizing and compressing her throat and throwing a book which struck her on the head, injuring her.
A third charge against him alleges he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner and threatened violence.
Hayat, of Graham Street, Edinburgh, had previously appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in early August, when it was stated the child had injuries which were alleged to be non-accidental.
On Tuesday the same court heard a medical report was awaited and Sheriff James Williamson granted a motion for a continued first diet on October 1.
