A man who choked his partner and lifted her up by the neck has been told he may get a “significant” prison sentence.
Ariel Jankowski, 33, flew into a rage after the woman told him she would leave him during an argument.
He threatened to smash up a bedroom with a hammer, assaulted the woman and threatened to kill her.
At Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday, depute fiscal Lynne Mannion said: “They were decorating in their property and began to argue about the relationship.
“The complainer said if the accused didn’t change his ways the relationship would be over.
“He shouted ‘if we’re to break up I’ll get a hammer and smash up the whole bedroom’.
“The complainer said ‘I’ll not be spoken to like that, shut up’.
“He then placed both hands around the complainer’s neck.
“He was squeezing her neck and lifted her up off the floor.”
The court heard that when Jankowski saw his partner was struggling to breathe he released her.
He then said: “I feel like I want to **** up your face”, adding “no, I’ll get arrested and you’ll be dead” when his partner told him to “go on and do it”.
Defence solicitor Jim Laverty said this behaviour was out character for his client and that he was remorseful.
Jankowski, of Blackness Street, Dundee, pled guilty to assault and threatening and abusive behaviour, carried out at Balmoral Gardens on August 12.
Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentencing until September 25 for a restriction of liberty order assessment, adding that if such an order cannot be imposed, Jankowski would go to prison.
