A Dundee thug who launched an “utterly horrific” attack on his former partner and on a child has been told to expect a lengthy jail sentence.
Darren Ogilvie spat on the woman’s face, tore a chunk out of her hair, stamped on her head and tried to force his hand down her trousers to “check if she had cheated”.
The 36-year-old also admitted repeatedly seizing the woman by the body, grabbing her throat, pinning her against a wall, punching her on the head and body and kicking her on the head.
Ogilvie pled guilty to a further charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, refusing to let the woman leave a property and demanding she allow him to inspect her private parts for evidence of sexual activity.
He admitted attempting to sexually assault her on June 28 at a flat in St Mungo Terrace.
The brutal attack was witnessed by a “screaming” toddler, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.
An older child who also witnessed the incident tried to intervene and was assaulted by Ogilvie, who seized the teenager by the throat and pinned her against a wall.
In the lead-up to the incident, Ogilvie had spent the whole day drinking alcohol at a friend’s house after being dropped off there by the woman, the court heard.
She then went to work and received a number of text massages by him, talking about their relationship.
“At around 10.10pm she arrived home and told a neighbour to allow the accused entry into the block”, fiscal depute Kirsten Letford said.
“She went inside to check for the accused and was unable to find him.
“She then observed him coming out of a bathroom where he had been hiding.
“She went to the kitchen and he became aggressive.”
Neighbours heard the commotion that ensued and came to the woman’s aid, after which police were called.
The woman suffered a number of injuries including a black eye, a burst lip, bruising on her hip, missing hair and facial injuries.
Addressing Ogilvie, Sheriff Thomas Hughes said: “Your behaviour was utterly horrific and unacceptable.
“I will call for background reports but be under no illusion that you will be serving a lengthy custodial sentence.”
Sentencing was deferred until November 1 and Ogilvie was remanded.
