Scottish singing star Tom Walker is inviting a local act to join him on stage after announcing a gig in Dundee.
Walker, winner of the 2019 BRITs Breakthrough Award, is coming to the city’s Beat Generator Live on Sunday February 9 as part of his Home Run acoustic tour.
The singer, whose album What A Time To Be Alive reached Number 1 in the UK charts, is inviting solo artists or duos to apply to play a set as the first act on stage and will pick
his favourite entry to perform acoustically on the night.
Walker caused a big stir when he visited Dundee earlier this year, performing to a huge crowd at Assai Records in Broughty Ferry.
Video of the visit is above this story.
“The Home Run tour combines everything I love,” he said. “Playing acoustically is
always a buzz because there’s something really intimate and special with the audience
when the songs are stripped right back to their basics.
“I love playing on home turf, where the fans really treat you as family and have given me a huge amount of support from when I was just starting out.
“And I’m really excited to give a little boost to a local artist each night. It’s not that long since I was trying to get onto gigs as the opening act and it can really make a difference to your career by playing to new audiences who have the chance to hear you for the first time.
“To be able to offer that opportunity on this tour will be amazing.”
Walker, who has sold more than a million copies around the world, will play six dates in Scotland and one in Manchester, where he was brought up, in February next year. This will be Tom’s only UK headline tour in 2020.
