Two 11-year-old boys from Dundee have been left “absolutely gutted” after their locked bicycles were stolen while they slept just weeks before Christmas.
Blair Harper and Kodi Neil had been out cycling for several hours last Saturday before returning to Blair’s home at Forth Crescent in Menzieshill.
When Blair’s mum Sara Stirling woke up in the morning she discovered both mountain bikes, which had been secured with a double chain, had disappeared.
Blair’s bike is a grey and orange Voodoo while Kodi’s is an orange Carrera.
Together they were valued at more than £1,000 brand new when they were bought less than a year ago.
Sara, who also has a 13-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son, said: “The bikes were locked and sitting in the close at night.
“I was confused in the morning on Sunday after realising they weren’t there so I woke up the boys straight away.
“They sprung out of bed in shock when I told them. They’re absolutely gutted.
“Blair is always out on his bike so he’s really upset.
“Whoever stole them has taken the locks as well.”
Sara said she had reported the crime to the police and was hoping someone would have information that could lead them to the culprits and the bikes.
The theft comes just two months after the family moved into the flat.
The two youngsters, both 1st year pupils at Harris Academy, spent the whole day desperately searching for their bikes.
Sara added: “The boys have been everywhere around the local area too looking for them.
“I have been searching everywhere in second-hand shops and on selling websites.
“My post on Facebook asking for help has been shared hundreds of times too.
“We obviously don’t know who has taken them but the front door to the close is always shut and secure.
“Someone must have been allowed in and then taken the bikes.
“I have seen a few dodgy characters coming in to the close recently visiting other people.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police are carrying out enquiries after two bikes were stolen from a close in Forth Crescent, Dundee between Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December.”
The bikes are believed to have been taken sometime between 11pm and 8.45am the following day.
