A man has died in a crash on the A90 between Angus and Stonehaven.
Emergency services were called to the dual carriageway near the Auquhirie junction just before 5pm after a two-vehicle crash.
One man died at the scene while another was cut free from the wreckage of his vehicle.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We were called to Newlands at Stonehaven at 4.47pm and the stop message came back at 5.57pm.
“There was one male fatality.
“One male casualty was extricated from his vehicle.
“The crews then made the scene safe.”
The A90 is closed in both directions, with traffic diverted along the A92.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

Motorists faced severe disruptions with reports on social media of a second crash along the diversion route, but Police Scotland refuted that there had been such an incident.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are in attendance following a two-car crash on the A90 near the Auquhirie junction.
“We got the report at 5pm.
“The A90 has been closed northbound and southbound at Stonehaven.
“Drivers are being diverted via the A92.”
