A Chinese Dundee resident who hails from close to the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak has shared her fears for relatives and friends.
Junfang Song, who comes from a town around an hour away from Wuhan in Hubei province, but now lives in Dundee, said she is worried for loved ones.
She told Tay FM: “You read the news, you check the numbers every day on how many people have been infected and how many have died.
“You know your family is involved and friends live in the city, which is in lock-down.
“You don’t know how long it is going to last. You think all I can do is just pray.”
China is currently gearing up for a 15-day celebration of Chinese New Year.
2020, a Year of the Rat, according to Chinese zodiac, will run from January 25 to February 8.
Ms Song added that many had changed their plans this year to protect themselves and loved ones.
She said: “The Chinese New Year has definitely had a big effect on how quickly and fast the virus has spread in the past couple of weeks.
“For Chinese New Year, all the family gather together in celebration of the festival just like here at Christmas time.
“Many are saying they are going to cancel parties and family gatherings and just stop to visit friends during the Chinese New Year.
“They are also buying a lot of food from the supermarket to stock up just in case anything happens.”
