A radio DJ caught with more than 600 indecent images of children has been spared jail.
Paul Brownlee, who has worked for Wave 102 in Tayside, Radio Forth in Edinburgh and Borders Radio, was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
The 47-year-old was also placed under supervision and on the sex offenders register for two years.
Brownlee pled guilty to downloading indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children between January 19 2018 and January 14 2019.
The DJ has been a familiar face around the country due to his radio work and has fronted events with stars such as the Cheeky Girls.
Police raided his home after receiving a tip-off.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard he is now unemployed and on Universal Credit. Stuart Hamilton, defending, told the court: “He has, through speaking with the social work department, demonstrated understanding of why this offending came about and of the seriousness of the offence.
“There are limited risk factors and he’s willing to engage with a robust plan to further reduce risk.”
Sheriff Lorna Drummond told Brownlee normally the offence would attract a prison sentence but she was willing to go down the community disposal route as he was a first offender and previously of good character.
She said: “It was images in the hundreds rather than thousands and the majority were category C rather than category A.”
Brownlee was given the community payback order as a direct alternative to custody.
