Former Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara has been allowed home from hospital after having surgery for a bleed on the brain.
The 46-year-old Celtic and Scotland star was discharged on Friday after spending almost three weeks in hospital and celebrated the milestone in his recovery with a Chinese takeaway.
McNamara was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary last month after collapsing outside his home in York.
At the time, he was said to be in a “critical but stable condition”, with former Hoops team-mate John Hartson reporting he had suffered a bleed on the brain.
Now his close friend and former Celtic team-mate Simon Donnelly has revealed he has been considered well enough to go home.
He said: “There’s some great news, he got home.
“He has obviously been through the mill in the last three weeks since everything happened.
“But they have now deemed him fit enough to go home and I believe he had a Chinese takeaway last night.”
Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, Donnelly, 45, added: “The signs are good. He’s getting there, it’s going to be a long recovery for him but he’s getting there.”
McNamara’s family had earlier issued an update on his condition while thanking well-wishers for their support.
Posting on Twitter, daughter Erin, 22, said: “Thank you for the continued support for my dad, the past week has been so overwhelming for us as a family.
“He is making progress but still has a long road to recovery. We are so thankful for all the care he’s received and remain positive.”
The former Dundee United manager has been working as a players’ agent as well as advising Dunfermline through his sports management firm.
