The family of a 15-year-old boy who was tragically killed after colliding with a car while cycling in Dundee have paid tribute to their “much loved son”.
Cairn Rankine, a pupil at Morgan Academy, was cycling on Pitkerro Road when he was struck by a black Nissan car at around 7.15pm yesterday evening.
It is understood emergency services attempted to resuscitate the boy, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have said: “As a family we are devastated by our sudden loss, Cairn was a much loved son and was a brother to two sisters.
“He was a pupil at Morgan Academy in S4 where he had great friends.
“He was also a Lance Corporal in Army Cadets in the Medics, along with assisting at Stobswell Army Cadets. Cairn was also a big football fan.
“We do not wish to comment further and asked that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
Maci Hansen, a friend of Cairn’s, wrote on Facebook: “As many people know the most caring and lovable boy was taking away from us in the most horrific way possible, he will always have a place in mine and others hearts and I just hope he’s in a better place now.
“Writing this has got to be the hardest thing if ever done in my life having the thought of having to say goodbye to someone u never thought would leave it’s the most horrible feeling ever.
“I’m sitting n wondering what can I say because my words can’t nearly explain how amazing cairn was, he always has ur back, he’d always have a laugh, he’d always go metal when celtic scored and be the happiest boy ever and he’d always make sure you were okay before he checked on himself n that’s the boy I’m always gonna remember.”
Inspector Greg Burns of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Cairn during this tragic time.
“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to speak to officers.”
