Police and firefighters have been called to a Broughty Ferry street following reports of smoke in the area.
A section of Brown Street has been cordoned off due to the incident, which happened at about 10am.
Smoke is said to have been seen coming from a manhole.
SSE are said to be on the scene.
A fire and rescue spokeswoman said: “We were there. We had a report from police of smoke coming from a manhole cover. However they were fine to stand us down because SSE were in attendance.
“SSE isolated the mains supply to the junction box. We are still there and remaining on scene until the box is made safe.”
An update on the SSE website says there has been a loss of power supply in the DD5 area near Brown Street.
A statement from SEE reads: “We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed.
“Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.”
A police spokeswoman said: “We were called at 9.50am. We were just there to close the street off.”
