A Dundee man whose dog was run over by a car after he collapsed in the street has appealed for witnesses to find the driver who sped off from the scene.

Raymond Simpson, 29, suffers from mobility problems and fell over on Balunie Drive on Thursday, spooking his nine-month-old Border Collie pup.

Pooch Molly broke free from her harness and was hit by a car, injuring her paw.

Raymond said the driver did not stop and is now appealing for anyone who saw the incident to contact the Missing Pets Dundee and Angus Facebook page.

He has also contacted police, with hopes that CCTV from the area will identify the car.

Raymond said: “Because of my health I can be unstable on my feet and I collapsed while out for a walk.

“Molly was on a lead but she got loose from her harness and ran off.

“My partner, Jamie, tried to catch her but then a car came and Molly was hit.

“Luckily it wasn’t too serious, only her paw was injured.

“We took her to the vet and we gave her medicine.”

Raymond said it happened so fast that he did not manage to get a good look at the car or the driver.

The incident happened at around 3pm and there was a van behind the car, and Raymond hopes the van driver will come forward to help.

He added: “I don’t even remember the colour or make of the car or what the driver looked like, just that it was a man.

“The driver definitely did see that he’d hit the dog. He looked at her through his window but then just drove away.

“We were very shaken by it and it does make us anxious to take the dog out walking again.

“It does make me angry that the man didn’t stop, not even to check the dog was okay.

“I’m hoping some of the other drivers can come forward.”

Molly is now recovering at home and is expected to be back to full health soon.

A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that the incident was reported to them at 4.30pm on Thursday.
