City walkers have been told to keep their dogs on leads at all times when venturing outside during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dundee City Council has also reminded locals to adhere to social distancing measures aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19 when out with pooches in the city – and to keep their pets away from others.
Only one daily exercise is permitted per person during the lockdown – with many using this time to take their pets outside.
Locals have also been told to take dog waste home with them if they find bins full.
A statement from the council reads: “Dog walkers are also urged to do their bit in preventing the spread of the virus, by maintaining social distancing measures and keeping their dogs on leads at all times to prevent them from approaching other people or dogs.
“Dog owners are also asked, if bins in their area are full, that they take their litter or dog waste bags home with them.”
It comes as the local authority revealed that the city’s secondary schools have donated 1,000 pairs of safety goggles to the Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership to assist front line staff dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak.
The protective equipment came from science department laboratories.
A council spokesman said: “After schools were closed, the children and families service was keen that these specialist goggles could be used by front line staff providing health care and social care support during the coronavirus pandemic.
“This shows the joint working that is going on as the city faces up to the challenges posed by the virus.”
Elsewhere taxi testing has been suspended in Dundee for 12 weeks – meaning all vehicles with valid plates can continue to operated so long as they are properly maintained, safe to drive, and with a valid or extended MOT.
