Dundee Carers Centre have launched a shopping card to ease the strain on the city’s unpaid carers.
The electronic Adult Carers Card has been developed for people who have a caring responsibility for someone in a household other than their own.
The cards will be issued to people collecting medication or groceries on behalf of a vulnerable person.
It is hoped the cards will ease the pressure on unpaid carers, especially when accessing protected periods in supermarkets and pharmacies, during the Covid-19 crisis.
A pioneering young carers shopping card was developed by the organisation.
Sarah Boath, team manager (carer support services) said: “We liaised with Dundee Volunteer & Voluntary Action (DVVA) to raise awareness of this card with local retailers and supermarkets.
“Local Authority and Health and Social Care partners have also been in contact with Tayside Division of Police Scotland so their officers are also aware of the scheme.”
If you are an unpaid carer aged 18 and over and feel this card would be of benefit, contact the Centre on 01382 200422 or email centre@dundeecarerscentre.org.uk.
