A staff member at a Dundee care home has died after testing positive for coronavirus.
Staff at Pitkerro Care Centre say they have been left "devastated" by the death of their colleague over the Easter weekend
Parent company Hudson Healthcare said the worker self-isolated on April 4 after showing symptoms.
The care worker was then moved to Ninewells Hospital when symptoms worsened, before sadly passing away.
Last week the home revealed it had been hit by an outbreak of the disease with six residents and eight staff members having tested positive.
Jennifer Wishart, Scotland regional manager for Hudson Healthcare said: “The entire Pitkerro Care Centre family were devastated by the passing of one of our staff members over the bank holiday weekend.
"They were wonderfully compassionate, extremely hard-working and much-loved.
“The member of staff had been receiving hospital care in relation to Covid-19 symptoms.
"Our thoughts are with their family and friends during this difficult time, and we are providing support to the family where possible.
"We request that their privacy be respected.”
A spokesperson said no more residents have been tested for the virus since confirming the initial outbreak.
He said this was because government guidance "does not cater" for further testing of residents once an outbreak, defined as five residents, is confirmed.
He added all staff who display symptoms and are self-isolating are being tested to ensure it is safe for them to return to work.
No further information on the age or gender of the employee has been released.
It is understood the worker showed no symptoms at the end of a night shift on April 3 before later calling the home to inform them they were feeling unwell.
A spokesperson for watchdog the Care Inspectorate said: "We are aware of the tragic death of a staff member at this care home as a result of suspected Covid-19.
"Our thoughts are with their family and loved ones, and with the staff at the home.
“We are in contact with the care service and the local health and social care partnership during this difficult time.
"All of Scotland's social care sector is working under very difficult circumstances to care for people during the pandemic and the Care Inspectorate is doing all it can to support them."
