A Dundee-based charity for people with disabilities is offering online support to its service users.
PAMIS, which works with people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, has adapted its methods to continue to help people from home.
The charity is providing online art and music therapy, craft activities, drama and multisensory storytelling and physical activity through videos. Staff are also keeping in touch with families from email, text phone and social media.
Jenny Miller, chief executive of PAMIS, said: “People with profound and multiple learning disabilities are some of the most vulnerable people in society with complex heath condition they require often intensive 24/07 care and support.
“The caring role is a very demanding role and standard “entertainment” programmes don’t offer the kind of support that benefits these families. In addition many family and paid carers are now seeing their role intensify, often now involved over a 24 hour period.
“Therefore the programme we designed and developed was one that would provide them with appropriate and meaningful activity for the people they are supporting.
“In addition, we recognise that the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of the carer was also really important so this programme of online therapeutic activities supports both the carer and the person being cared for.”
