Police are investigating reports a young girl was kicked by a man outside a busy Dundee shopping centre.
The “unprovoked assault” on the seven-year-old is said to have taken place outside the Murraygate entrance to the Wellgate Centre at about 4pm on Monday.
The girl was not injured but police say she was left “extremely upset and distressed”.
The man is described as being in his twenties, about 6ft tall, of heavy build, and was wearing a dark blue jacket at the time.
He was in the company of a woman who was wearing long, pink clothing.
A Tayside Police Division statement reads: “We are currently investigating an incident which happened at the Murraygate entrance to the Wellgate Centre, Dundee, about 4pm on Monday, September 7.
“A seven-year-old girl was allegedly kicked by a man in an unprovoked assault.
“Fortunately she was not injured but was left extremely upset and distressed.
“It is understood that a number of passers-by approached the family of the victim to offer assistance or inform them that they had witnessed the incident. We would like to speak to these potential witnesses as soon as possible.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please call 101 or speak with any police officer.
“Also, information can be given anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111. Our reference is incident 2492 of September 7.”
