Two young people from Dundee this week showed their support for a campaign which aims to combat anti-semitism in Britain.
Connor Finlayson, 20, and Beth Sommerville, 21, both official regional ambassadors for the Holocaust Educational Trust, launched a new exhibition at London’s Wiener Library which is designed to challenge misconceptions about Britain and its reaction to the Holocaust.
Using contemporary artefacts and the first-hand testimony of Holocaust survivors, “Britain and the Holocaust”, will chart the actions, and inactions, of the British press, public and government to the events of the Holocaust as they unfolded
Commenting on both his role in the exhibition and on the importance of the project, Connor said: “This exhibition highlights that as a country, we did try and ease the suffering of Jews during the Holocaust – we accepted some refugees and people were shocked and appalled to hear the stories that followed.
“However, I can’t help but think that we didn’t necessarily do enough then and so perhaps we should aspire to do better now.”
