Staff from a legendary Dundee nightclub whose musical efforts earned them international stardom are set to reproduce the track which put them on the map.
Mum of two Alexa Keen, 41, worked 
as a steward at popular Dundee nightclub Mardi Gras – which recently 
celebrate its 20th anniversary by 
organising a retro reunion party-during the mid 1990s.
In a curious twist of fate, Alexa went on to record vocals on a Mardi Gras cover of Mary’s Prayer by Dundee band Danny Wilson.
The track was widely acclaimed on the international stage, keeping the Spice Girls off the number one spot in Brazil.
Speaking ahead of her return to the stage last February at the club’s reunion bash, Alexa, who is now a mother, shared the story of her journey from steward to popstar.
She said: “The club decided that they wanted to record a cover song and needed a singer, so I said that I would do it.
“We went down to Seagate Studios and did a couple of recordings.
“From there everything just snowballed and things went absolutely crazy.
“We got to number one in Brazil and were signed to Sony Publishing.
“I have a magazine in the house from when we kept the Spice Girls off the number one spot which has a big picture of me on the front and a little picture of them.”
Now it’s emerged that staff are set to re-record the song as it remains unavailable in many parts of the world.
The rights to the track are owned by a former staff member of the club, but he has since moved abroad.
Former Mardi Gras DJ and reunion organiser Pat Mulligan revealed: “It’s a work in progress.
“It’s definitely going to happen because every time some one asks us about the song they always say that they can’t find it.
“We were number one in Brazil and were really big in the Czech Republic and Portugal, so if we re-record the song it will be something permanent for us to keep.
“Alexa looks and sounds like she’s been in an oxygen tent for the past 20 years-she’s exactly how I remember her.
“We should get something done in the next couple of months.”
