Dundee’s electric vehicle charging network could receive a large investment under plans to help remove “obsolete” vehicles from the city.
Councillors will vote next week on a proposal to invest almost £420,000 in charging points at council facilities and a tender to install on-street “pop-up” chargers at five sites.
The experimental “pop-up chargers” are proposed for Yarrow Terrace, Blackness Road, Dudhope Street, Findale Street and South Victoria Dock Road.
Council depots at Clepington Road, Caird Park and Claverhouse Industrial Estate will also get charging points, under the plans to be discussed on Monday, October 26.
Mark Flynn, SNP, committee convener, said: “As we increasingly replace obsolete and outmoded fossil-fuel driven parts of the fleet with electric vehicles of all shapes and sizes the charging network has to be there to keep up with the greater demand.
“These new charge points and the experimental on street pop-ups will keep Dundee at the forefront of low and zero emission vehicle use and innovative technology which benefits us all by delivering cleaner air for the city.”
Traffic technology group Swarco UK are recommended for £305,5000 contract to install charging points at the three council bases.
Transport officials have recommended Tayside Contracts as the successful bidder for the pop-up chargers, which will cost £113,000 if approved.
