A local care home operator has submitted plans for a new 25-bedroom purpose-built nursing facility in Dundee.
It would be located on Garry Terrace in Ardler and run by the Kennedy Care Group, which has homes across Tayside.
The building was a originally a factory and was converted to a nursing home in 1989 with an extension added thereafter.
The former home had 37 bedrooms. The existing building has a concrete frame and had to be repaired following damage by fire.
The company had originally hoped to upgrade the structure but are now proposing demolition as the current layout does not “meet their philosophy”.
Architect Peter Inglis, who submitted the plans on behalf of the company, said locating the home within the community and in a residential area is an “important part of the design”.
He added: “When the existing building is demolished, a new single storey building will be erected in its place.
“The new nursing home will have 25 bedrooms and be complete with lounges and dining facilities to meet the current requirements.
“There will be car parking on site for staff and visitors.
“Two parking spaces will be provided with electric car charging points and there will be bicycle parking facilities.
“A feature of the new home will be the private courtyard where residents can take part in therapeutic activities and the public facilities in the building will look out into this landscaped courtyard.”
The application states the development “will clearly bring employment opportunities” but does not specify how many.
The group currently runs three other homes in Dundee.
These are Redwood House in Broughty Ferry and Rose House and Carmichael House in the Hilltown.
Mr Inglis added: “This proposed home has been designed to meet the latest standards for space and amenity as part of an ever-developing strategy.
“The building will have dual pitched roofs and be finished in facing brick, as the modern houses in Camperdown Road adjacent have been.”
Headquartered in Forfar, the company also runs Riverview Lodge in Newport-on-Tay as well as six in Angus.
