A Barnhill takeaway has been targeted by thieves who made off with thousands of pounds worth of goods – including entire ovens.
Abdul’s Curry House was raided on Friday, although reports are only now surfacing of the robbery, during which multiple cookers and tables were stolen.
The popular curry place has been forced to temporarily close following the theft, after losing the equipment worth £10,000.
Two pizza ovens and six burner cookers were nicked from the Campfield Square takeaway some time between midnight and 3.20pm on May 6.
Three stainless steel tables were also taken from the premises, which has now been shuttered close.
The takeaway, which delivers curries, kebabs and pizzas right across the city and the surrounding area, opened in October last year.
Local shop workers confirmed the premises had been shut since Friday, but it remains unclear how long the owners expect it to take before they can reopen for business.
Police Scotland are investigating the incident, and have appealed for anyone with any information that be helpful to come forward.
The raid comes just over a year after a separate robbery attempt on another Campfield Square shop, which saw a gormless thief cut through the Post Office’s national lottery service line, thinking it was their alarm system.
The balaclava-clad would-be thief was captured on CCTV on the roof of the MS Newsagent and Post Office with a cordless power grinder to cut through external wires last March.
However, his attempt to breakthrough the security system was doomed to fail, as he had mistakenly severed the cables to the shop’s Lottery terminal instead.
It is understood that he quickly left without further attempt to target or access the Post Office or any of its neighbouring businesses.
Police Scotland has issued an appeal for information, and urges anyone with any information about the raid on Abdul’s Curry House to contact their Tayside Division on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
