A temporary endoscopy unit based at Ninewells Hospital will reduce waiting times impacted by coronavirus, a doctor has claimed.
The unit will boost NHS Tayside’s endoscopy capacity and is now the seventh equipped room across the health board’s facilities.
It is now open and will be able to take up to 110 patients per week.
Dr John Todd, Consultant Gastroenterologist, said: “Covid-19 has had a large impact on endoscopy services. Extra infection control measures mean that we are working at just under 40% of our normal capacity.
“This additional unit will help to bring endoscopy activity back to near normal levels and we will continue to prioritise those with the most serious symptoms.”
The mobile endoscopy unit has been funded by the Scottish Government for a 30-week period.
