A Dundee woman has said she feels much healthier and happier after shedding seven stones.
Claire Campbell, who had been almost 19 stone at her heaviest, has slimmed down to 10 stone 7 lbs in just over a year.
She decided to try and shake off the weight after an uncomfortable flight abroad to see her friend who had competed on a hit US gameshow.
She said: “A friend of mine lives in America – they actually won Who Wants to be a Millionaire of all things – and so she wanted to pay for my flight out.
“My friend was very big into her game shows. She was the last contestant on that episode of the programme and won something like $64,000.
“I was over 18 stone, and it was such a horrible flight. After I got back I was all swollen up for a few days.
“A few years later my friend invited me back out and I knew I had to do something about my weight.”
It was at that point that Claire signed up for Weight Watchers and began trying to slim down.
Just seven months later, she had lost over 50 pounds, and was ready for her next trip to America.
She said: “When I arrived, my friend walked past me twice. She didn’t even recognise me because of the weight loss.”
The 29-year-old, who is currently studying biomedical science at Dundee University, has lost more than the entire weight of her son, Daniel.
With newly-found confidence, the avid cosplayer now enjoys getting photos taken when she heads along to conventions with her daughter, and gave advice for anyone else who wanted to lose some weight.
How to do it
Claire said: “Write down everything you’re eating. Look up the calorie count online or on Google Play or Apple. That way you can easily get a rough estimate of what you’re having.
“Buy yourself a food scale too. You just don’t realise the quantities you’re eating without it.”
Another trick Claire used was to use smaller plates, to make it look like you’re eating more even when you have less food.
