A new app taking families on a solar system trail around Dundee has been launched to mark the start of the city’s science festival.
The app will allow space fans to click on QR codes positioned on lamppost banners at various landmarks around the city to explore fascinating facts about the planets.
Starting at the Greenmarket Science Centre the walking tour takes participants through the city centre and Dudhope Park, all the way up to the Law.
Festival organisers hope it will give families something new to keep youngsters entertained and help build their interests during the pandemic.
The app can be downloaded at www.dundeesciencefestival.org/
This year’s science festival will run until November 29 and is divided into three themes of space and climate, life sciences and human, and engineering and technology.
Alongside the solar system trail launch, the opening week will also offer a range of online games, shows, talks and demonstrations.
The festival includes input from the Royal Observatory Edinburgh and various universities and highlights the growing UK space industry.
Dundee Science Centre development and fundraising advisor Carlene Cura said: “Now more than ever, there’s a real appetite from families to keep their children entertained and engaged so we are absolutely delighted to bring Dundee Science Festival back to the city.
“Science is everywhere, indoors and out and there’s plenty to explore wherever you are.
“As well as the city-wide trail which will give families a fun focus to their weekend or evening stroll, we’ve also lined up some great online activities to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.”
