Dundee was hit by traffic chaos after one of the city’s busiest roads was shut while emergency services responded to an incident on Monday.
Police and paramedics were called to Dock Street, close to the City Quay junction, due to concerns for a man at about 2.30pm.
The road was closed for several hours while officers dealt with the incident, leading to major congestion on streets throughout the city centre.
Some motorists said they were stuck in traffic for more than two hours after Dock Street was closed both east and west bound.
Evening rush hour added to the severity of the congestion, with vehicles queued as far back as Stobswell and along West Marketgait and Marketgait.
The Tay Road Bridge off-ramp to the east of the city was also shut. It remained open from the western approach.
Police reopened Dock Street at about 6.45pm.
A spokesman for the force said: “We were made aware of concern raised for a man at Dock Street in Dundee around 2.30pm on Monday, November 16.
“The man has now been taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment.
“A road closure was put in place while emergency services attended the incident. All affected roads have now reopened.”
Dundee City Council and the Tay Road Bridge authority worked to alleviate congestion during the road closure.
Updating customers, bus firm Xplore Dundee said traffic was at a “standstill on all approaches to the East Port”.
It added: “All services are affected to varying degrees due to traffic queuing up into Stobswell and along the Seagate.”
Stagecoach East Scotland services also suffered major delays.
