The devastated family of a 61-year-old Birkhill grandmother killed in a horrific road accident has said she will be “really missed”.
Ella Maxwell, from Backmuir Drive, Birkhill, was killed on Monday afternoon when she was struck by a car as she walked on the village’s Dronley Road.
It is understood her husband, George, was with her at the time of the accident.
Emergency services descended on the quiet Angus village within minutes.
Mrs Maxwell was treated by paramedics in the road after the collision but were unable to save her life.
Her son Gavin, a father-of-two, said her death had been the result of a “tragic accident”.
He and his sister Dawn were both comforting their father at the family home in Birkhill yesterday.
He said: “We’re just really, really devastated.
“There’s not much more we can say. It’s just been an accident – a tragic accident.
“Mum is going to be really missed. We’d just appreciate it if we could be left alone.”
A second woman – who appeared visibly distraught – was taken away from the scene in an ambulance following the accident but police have refused to divulge the circumstances of Monday’s tragedy.
Dronley Road was closed for several hours on Monday as police began their investigation into the cause of the accident.
