Councillor John Alexander launches the programme for this year's Dundee Flower and Food Festival.

Dundee City Council has decided to spice up the 2016 Flower and Food Festival.

Chefs Tony Singh and Cyrus Todiwala will be appearing at the Camperdown Park event in their guise as The Incredible Spice Boys.

The will be joined on a packed three-day programme by French culinary start Jean Christophe Novelli and, closer to home, Glasgow-based chef Jacqueline O’Donnell.

On the gardening front, Beechgrove Garden star Carole Baxter will also be putting in an appearance.

Last year more than 20,000 people visited the Dundee Flower and Food Festival over its three days.

Nieghbourhood services committee convener councillor John Alexander said: “This is the biggest event in Dundee each year and it just goes from strength to strength in terms of attracting people.

“What we have to do it ensure we build it up through the year to attract visitors and ensure it breaks even.”

Mr Alexander added: “I have attended and enjoyed the Dundee Flower and Food Festival for many years and afterwards I always wonder how the organisers are going to keep up the same high standards at the next event. But without fail that’s exactly what they do.”

“The quality of special guests, entertainment, demonstrations and displays will ensure that the Dundee Flower and Food Festival continues to attract crowds from all over Scotland and beyond for all three days.”

Joining the line-up at this year’s festival will be Scottish fighting stunt team The Clann, who will be re-enacting battles from Scottish history.

Peter Sandwell, who helped put together this year’s line-up, said: “It’s about trying to have something different for the public, which is why we try to have different chefs.”

This year’s festival will also be hosting the Scottish Chrysanthemum and Dahlia National Show.

It takes place from Friday September 2 to Sunday September 4 and the gates will open at 10am each day.

Early bird tickets for the festival will go on sale on June 6.

Although people will be able to pay to enter the festival on each of its three days, the early bird tickets offer discounted entry.

“Tickets go on sale next week and, as in previous years, there are some great deals for three day passes and early bird offers,” said Mr Alexander.
