Two Tayside teenagers are competing in a national housing apprentice competition.
Rebecca Duff, 18, and Finlay Smith, 17, are taking part in the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations’ (SFHA) apprentice challenge, along with 17 other young people from SFHA member housing associations and co-operatives.
Finlay, a business administration apprentice in Caledonia housing association’s Dundee office, said: “The reason why I choose this apprenticeship was to earn valuable work experience, gain an SVQ2 in business administration and earn money.
“The highlights of my apprenticeship so far are gaining new skills and valuable work experience.
“I believe the business administration experience I gain at Caledonia housing association will stand me in good stead for the future.”
The awards aim to further consolidate the skills of the modern apprentices and highlight the role that apprenticeships play as a first step on the career ladder in the housing sector.
Competitors will present video diaries of their apprenticeships at the SFHA’s annual conference on today and tomorrow.
The conference will also see the launch of a new plan for apprenticeships by the SFHA and Skills Development Scotland (SDS), which will increase the numbrt of modern apprentices in housing associations and co-operatives across Scotland.
The SHFA has 120 members and 200 commercial associates.
