A 40-year-old Dundee man who died after being engulfed in a fireball on a city street had appeared in court accused of rape two days earlier.
Malcolm Fraser, 40, was found lying next to a car in Laird Street with severe burns on his face, hands and body on April 8.
A petrol canister was found lying by his body.
Just two days earlier he had appeared on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court where he had been accused of six sexual offences.
These included two charges of raping a woman and two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices towards a child.
It was alleged the sex assaults and and incidents of indecent practice took place over a period of several years at two locations in Dundee.
Fraser had appeared in private and had made no plea of declaration.
He was found outside his sister’s home in Laird Street two days later suffering from serious burns.
Emergency services were scrambled to the scene and he was treated by paramedics before he was rushed to Ninewells Hospital.
Fraser was then moved to a specialist burns treatment unit at St John’s Hospital in Livingston.
However, he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed Mr Fraser had died and said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the original incident.
She said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal following the death of a 40-year-old man on Friday, May 27 in hospital.
“The man had sustained serious burn injuries at a fire in Laird Street, Dundee on April 8.
“There are no suspicious circumstances.”
The emergency services were alerted to the incident just before 6pm on April 8, with reports of both Mr Fraser and a silver Ford Focus having been on fire.
After Mr Fraser was taken to hospital, police officers carried out a search of the area and various items, including pieces of charred clothing were taken away from the scene.
Uniformed police continued to keep people away from the car while they investigated.
A Crown Office spokesman said the case against Fraser would be closed when they receive a death report from police.
