T in the Park could be the big break needed for one young Dundee performer.
Scholesy, a hip-hop artist from the city, has secured a place on the T Break stage at the annual music festival, which attracts tens of thousands of music fans each year.
The T Break has been running since Scholesy, real name Callum Rennet, was born 21 years ago.
It is open to any unsigned acts in Scotland, and of the thousands of entrants who apply, just 16 get a slot on the stage.
Scholesy said his passion for music came from the endless possibilities of new technology.
He said: “I have been doing music for ages — I play guitar and I was in bands. But I veered away from that as I lost interest.
“So I started producing and making dance tunes, and I realised I could use those techniques to write songs that were more interesting to me.
“I found the guitar was holding me back. On the laptop, there’s a lot of freedom. I have only scratched the surface as it’s endless what you can do.”
The computer science student’s stage name comes from retired Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.
Nicola Cooper, sponsorship executive at Tennent’s Lager said: “We are delighted with the line-up for the T Break Stage this year.
“To see such a diverse mix of musical styles and acts from towns and cities all over the country is fantastic.
“Congratulations to all 16 acts on this year’s line-up and thank you to everyone who sent in submissions, the calibre of entries was outstanding.”
T Break has helped to launch the careers of several well known bands, such as Biffy Clyro, Snow Patrol, and Twin Atlantic.
