Over 1,000 women in a variety of pink costumes descended on Dundee for the Cancer Research Race for Life on Sunday.
Following the success of Saturday’s Pretty Muddy event, the ladies walked and ran a 5K and 10K course in Camperdown Park to raise awareness and funds for fighting cancer.
With the weather taking a turn for the better, the runners were in high spirits as they set off among music, pink smoke and cheers from supporters.
Starting off the race was VIP guest Sonia Rocha, a cancer scientist based at the University of Dundee.
She is part of a team studying how cancer cells behave when they are exposed to low oxygen, as understanding this could help scientists find ways of starving the cancer cells.
Sonia is urging people to support World Cancer Day, which, despite officially being in February, is a year-round campaign to raise funds and awareness for cancer research.
Sonia said: “My research would not be possible without the commitment of all our amazing supporters.
“Please support research by buying a buying a Unity Band and wearing it with pride.
“Whatever their motivation – to remember a loved one, celebrate people who have overcome the disease, or to rally in support of those going through treatment – we hope Courier readers will really identify with World Cancer Day and feel empowered to make a difference.”
Many of the participants live-tweeted from the event.

Remembering a loved one was a motivation for many of those running the Race for Life, such as Susan McAndie and Hazel Cheyne from Brechin, who have been taking part for 16 and 17 years respectively.
Hazel said: “I had two aunts who died of cancer so I’m doing the 5K in their memory.
“We really enjoy the Race for Life as everyone is so friendly and it’s a great atmosphere.
“Seeing the backs of people’s T-shirts, where there are names and pictures of people they’re commemorating reminds us of what this is all about.”
