A new centre celebrating Scottish comics could be created on Dundee waterfront.
World-famous comics and characters such as The Beano and The Broons were created in Dundee.
A decision on the proposed centre is expected to be made this autumn but it is hoped it would complement the £80.1 million V&A and create another tourism hotspot in the revamped waterfront.
City development director Mike Galloway revealed at Dundee fifth economic summit last week that discussions to create the two-storey tourist attraction opposite the Malmaison Hotel were at an advanced stage but was unable to reveal further details.
However, Dundee-based publishers DC Thomson and Co Ltd has now confirmed they are investigating the possibility of creating a comics centre on the waterfront.
A spokesperson said a feasibility study will be carried out before a decision is taken whether or not to proceed with the comics centre.
She said: “DC Thomson is working in partnership with Dundee City Council and Our Enterprise as well as some other organisations to discuss the possibility of a comic centre for Dundee.
“Discussions are underway to assess the feasibility of a comic centre as part of Waterfront Development at Site 02, opposite Malmaison Hotel.
“DC Thomson is investigating options in the best interests of the city and of the company.
“A decision is anticipated in the autumn.”
Dundee has long been famous for the children’s comics produced in the city and statues of Oor Wullie and Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx are popular with tourists and residents alike.
But the city is also hoping to create new characters to entertain and inspire future generations.
Dundee University is offering a postgraduate degree in the study of comics and graphic novels while the Dundee Comics Creative Space in the Vision Building offers space for budding comic creators to work.
