A 75-year-old man’s allotment was destroyed in a “sickening” vandalism spree across Dundee.
Police are searching for a gang of six youths who tore through the Hilltown and Law areas on the city early on Sunday morning.
An exact price on the damage caused has yet to be calculated – however it is likely to be well into the tens of thousands of pounds.
Witnesses reported seeing around 25 damaged cars in the Stirling Terrace and Kinloch Terrace areas around 4am before the group moved on to the allotments leading towards the Law.
It is understood sheds were set on fire and large greenhouses smashed. Fences were also torn down.
One woman said: “I heard they were going up and down the street jumping on car bonnets and hitting wing mirrors off with bats. It’s an absolute disgrace and I hope they are caught.”
Another local, who wanted to be named only as Tracey, said her elderly father George had been left “raging” after 16 large window panes on his allotment greenhouses were smashed.
“I heard they were up setting fire to sheds and they have smashed up
everything,” she said.
“There was a lot of them. This area has been targeted before, but nothing as bad as that.”
Tracey said her father has now been left to clear up thousands of fragments of glass from the smashed windows.
News of the vandalism spread quickly online last night with some branding it “sickening”.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed there had been a series of “linked” incidents in the area.
She added: “Police attended a number of reports of damage to vehicles in the Kinloch Terrace and Stirling Terrace area.
“There were a number of vehicles that had windows smashed and we had in excess of 10 reports relating to the same incident.
“Several allotments also sustained damage.”
It is understood the youths were wearing football tops at the time of the incident.
