Tristan gets his skates on for Mr World challenge

Tristan on the ice.
Tristan on the ice.

A Dundee ice hockey player is bidding  to become the world’s  most desirable man.

Tristan Harper, from Broughty Ferry, is competing for this year’s Mr World title – the lads’ answer to the Miss World beauty pageant.

The 28-year-old has been busy completing military exercises, running challenges, circuit training and charity work as part of his preparation for the contest.

He hopes that if he wins the publicity will put Dundee on the map as well as pave the way for further charity work in the sustainability sector.

Tristan said: “I’m currently in Southport, where the finals will be held on July 19.

“We’re doing a bunch of extreme challenges and day rehearsals.

“You’re judged on your performance and your interaction with the other contestants and on the day you also do a catwalk.

“I’ve been modelling for four years and I got a call from my agent asking me if I’d be interested in competing in Mr World.

“I went through a series of meetings and three weeks ago I was told I was Mr Scotland.

“It’s quite surreal, everything has happened so fast.”

Tristan currently lives in Glasgow, where he’s a professional ice hockey player with Braehead Clan and he has ambitions of becoming a professional mountaineer.

He added: “Even though I’m in Glasgow I visit Dundee all the time.

“All my friends and family are here and I love going back to see them.

“It’s so nice to just be able to walk along Broughty Ferry beach having an ice cream.

“It will mean everything to me if I win –  I want to put Scotland and Dundee on the map, and also have a platform for continuing my work.

“In future I’d like to help build a more sustainable environment in Scotland, and have my own TV show.”

Tristan is up against 49 other men from around the globe who will battle it out for the title on July 19.
