One of the Oor Wullie statues on the city’s Bucket Trail has been vandalised.
An Ardler man has said he woken around 3.45am on Wednesday by people shouting near the sculpture outside the Ardler Complex.
He later realised Oor Wullie had been forced from his bucket and was left lying on the ground.
It appears the group was a mix of male and females, although it is unclear how many people were involved.
The statue in question is Yarnbombed, created by local artist Pam Kelly.
She made her creation at the D&A College, and was inspired by yarn-bombing – the term for secretly decorating public art by covering them with knitting or crocheting.
The DC Thomson sponsored statue is number 30 on the trail and the incident has appalled people across Dundee.

On The Courier’s Facebook page, Steven Renwick posted: “Call me cynical, but I was certain they would be vandalised.
“Anything nice like this in Dundee, no matter where you put it, is likely to get vandalised. I always wonder – is this a Dundee thing, a Scotland think, a British thing?”
It is the second statue in the city to be targeted by vandals after the statue on Magdalen Green was covered in paint. It has since been repaired.
The Bucket Trail is raising money for The Archie Foundation.
