Broughty Ferry is following in the footsteps of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood for a Bake Off-themed competition at next month’s food fayre.
The Broughty Ferry Traders Association (BFTA) is behind the event, now in its second year, which showcases food and hospitality services from across the Ferry.
Last year’s event exceeded expectations with hundreds of attendees, and organisers have promised this year’s will be even bigger.
The fayre provides an opportunity for people to meet their local food producers and find out more about where their food comes from.
A Great Broughty Bake Off contest will be held, alongside a cocktail Great Broughty Shake Off competition.
There will also be demos, raffles, tastings and talks.
Event coordinator Jan McTaggart said: “Last year’s Ferry Food Fayre was incredibly popular. In fact, it was much, much busier than we had expected.
“It was lovely that so many folk turned out to support our new event – which showed that there’s quite an appetite for this kind of thing. So, we knew we simply had to do it again, but bigger and better.
“This year we’re encouraging people to enjoy the walk to the Woodlands to help avoid traffic congestion in the area. It also means that they’ll be able to enjoy the offerings from Ogilvy Vodka and Aitkens Wines.
“We’ve also had the kind offer of a free mini bus from Barnhill Travel – so we may be able to offer some free transport too.”
The fayre showcases local food, drink and hospitality businesses including Clementine of Broughty Ferry, Jessie’s Kitchen, Scott Brothers Butchers, the Bruach Bar & Restaurant, and the Tayberry Restaurant.
Other attendees include The Cocktail Co., Aitken Wines, Iced Gems, The Cake Guru, Papa Jaques, Cafe Mojo, and Willows.
The head chef of the Woodlands Hotel, where the event is being held, will also open up his kitchen to provide a behind the scenes experience to allow customers to buy food directly from the people who cooked it.
Dundee Food Bank is setting up a drop off point on the day and all the proceeds from the raffle and competitions will go to local good causes.
The fayre, at the Best Western Woodlands Hotel on Sunday 14 August, is free.
