Covid: Tayside pubs closed after weekend positive cases

Pubs in Tayside have closed after staff members and customers tested positive for Covid-19.

The Clep Bar in Dundee, the Vault in Monifieth and the Caledonian in Perth have all been shut following the weekend.

The closures come as latest World Health Organisation figures show Tayside is now the most infected region in Europe.

Clep Bar Dundee

The Clep Bar in Clepington Road, Dundee, was closed on Monday after someone who had been inside the pub tested positive.

A sign outside the bar said: “Unfortunately there has been a positive Covid test within the pub at the weekend.

“The pub will be closed for a deep clean on Monday and will re-open on Tuesday July 6th.

The Vault

The Vault in Monifieth could be shut all week, after voluntarily closing following two positive cases among staff.

Landlady Sheena Cochrane chose not to wait to be told to close, due to delays with the track and trace system.

She said: “We regret to say that two members of our team have tested positive for Covid.

“As the safety of our staff , customers and wider community is always our top priority we closed immediately after being informed to allow for deep cleaning, testing and isolation.

“I felt we really should close and let people know.

“We are devastated and sincerely hope no customers or other staff are affected.

“All other staff have tested negative on lateral flow tests awaiting PCR confirmation.

“We shall be closed at least until Monday July 5 but more probably until Friday July 9 to ensure everything is properly cleaned and staff can isolate.

“We are very sorry for any alarm this post may cause but please be sure we will always do what is right and being closed just now is the right thing.”

Perth

Owners of the Caledonian Bar in Perth’s High Street also closed voluntarily.

A spokesman said on Facebook: “We are absolutely gutted to post that we will be closed until Thursday due to Covid.

“This is an extra precautionary measure to allow us to have an additional professional deep clean.

“All staff have increased testing from twice weekly to daily just now to ensure your safety and ours.

“Thank you so much for your support over the whole Covid situation, we will be back open when it is safe .”
