A Broughty Ferry landlord has been left counting the cost after his pub was deluged during torrential rain overnight.
The cellars of the Occidental Bar on Queen Street are under two feet of water, with beer barrels and containers floating at the top.
Owner Ronnie Bissell is facing a massive clean up operation to drain the water, survey the damage and clean the pub before he can open again.
Ronnie said: “Right now I don’t know how long this is going to take.
“I’m going to have to get started right away assessing the damage and figuring out what to do.
“The cellars are under two feet of water.
“The empty beer barrels are floating in the water and containers have been moved from their positions against the walls.”
The flood water has also damaged the coolers and some electrics.
Carpets have also been soaked and Ronnie faces his bar being closed for at least a few days, just months after reopening from lockdown.
Kick in the teeth
He said: “This is just another major kick in the teeth for me.
“We were closed for 11 months due to Covid and then we get this. It’s just devastating.”
Ronnie said he received a call at around 2.30am, around the height of the storm, to let him know the streets around his pub were flooded.
He said: “I had only left the pub around 11.45pm but when I got back down the cellars were already flooded.
“There was a huge amount of rain which must have fallen in that short period of time.
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the amount of water in the cellars.
“I’ve been here all night and will now have to arrange to get the cellar dried out somehow and get the carpets dried and cleaned.
“This is the last thing I needed at this time.”
Ronnie has now positioned sandbags at the entrances to the pub as more rain is forecast for Wednesday.
It comes as firefighters tackled more than a dozen flooding problems across Tayside and Fife overnight and into Wednesday morning.
