Dundee City Council has issued a warning after a resident received a scam phone call.
The woman contacted the council’s advice services querying if a company called Benefits UK acted on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), or the Pension Service.
A council spokeswoman said: “She received a call from someone claiming to be from ‘Benefits UK’, who said that they worked on behalf of the DWP and needed some additional information in order to update an award benefit to her.
“The information they were requesting included the lady’s bank details and she recognised this was unusual.
“Anyone troubled by nuisance telephone calls and who would like some guidance on the options available to stop them can call Dundee Trading Standards on 01382 436260.
“People can also contact 03454 040506 for confidential support.”
