John Mitchell, 39, a prisoner at Perth, was jailed for 12 months at Dundee Sheriff Court after he admitted attempting to break into a house.
Mitchell pleaded guilty to climbing up a drain pipe and smashing a window in an attempt to break into a property occupied by Darren Rae, at Troon Terrace, with intent to steal, on November 15 last year.
The court was told a neighbour heard a bin being moved and looked out of the window. He saw Mitchell climbing the pipe and smashing the window.
The witness contacted police and Mitchell was traced in the clothes the witness had described, which had pieces of glass on them.
